Support from Family, Friends, and Allies

For most people, the first and most significant support we will receive on our employment journey will come from the people closest to us. Family members, friends, and peers often help us move towards realizing our employment goals. Our social and family networks play an important role in helping us reach our goals. This might involve assistance in exploring possible career goals/choices, finding work opportunities, dealing with on the job issues/challenges that may arise, or preparing for career advancement opportunities. This is true whether you have a disability or not. It also does not alter the fact that many people may also need support from professional employment agencies. The resources below have been gathered to provide tools and tactics for friends, family and allies to help support someone with a disability in their employment journey.

The Inclusive Workplace is an initiative of Ready, Willing and Able, a partnership of the Autism Alliance of Canada and Inclusion Canada. This work is made possible by the generous support of the Government of Canada’s Opportunities Fund.
